Lycomedes the Lord of Comana

Abstract
The civil dissensions of the Romans, spreading rapidly to their imperial domain, unfolded brilliant prospects of advancement for foreign as well as for Italian adventurers—wealth, power, and kingdoms to be won. Of the adherents of the Roman leaders in the eastern lands, some were just brigands. That appellation adheres with some justice to Cleon the Mysian, if not to Antipater the despot of Derbe and Laranda; and some spoke derisively of Caesar’s partisan, Mithridates of Pergamum.
