Conclusion

View through CrossRef
The conclusion emphasizes two themes. First, that people’s systems of values are complex and involve many interrelationships among various values and standards of fulfillment. Second, that because of this complexity, simple solutions to our problems are not possible. We need to try to fit our ultimate values together as best we can, often in conversation with friends, by adjusting how we prioritize them, the means we take to them, and how we understand success in terms of them. The second half of the chapter considers a new question: Who is a philosopher to tell other people what to do?
