Gustav Ludolf Martens (1818–1872)

Gustav Ludolf Martens (1818–1872) war einer der bedeutendsten neugotischen Architekten seiner Zeit. Für die städtebauliche und architektonische Entwicklung der Stadt Kiel ab 1854, aber auch für Norddeutschland, Dänemark, England und Skandinavien war Martens von prägendem Einfluss. Mit Georg Gottlob Ungewitter war er ebenso verbunden wie mit Conrad Wilhelm Hase und der Hannoverschen Bauschule. Zu Unrecht ist Martens in Vergessenheit geraten, da der Großteil seiner Bauten zerstört oder der lang anhaltenden Geringschätzung historistischer Architektur zum Opfer gefallen ist. Mit diesem Buch legt die Autorin die erste Monografie zu einem der Pioniere neugotischer Architektur in Schleswig-Holstein vor und fügt darin die erhaltenen Bauten und den zeichnerischen Nachlass zu einem umfassenden Gesamtbild zusammen.
