Este artigo pretende investigar o conceito de sumo bem na teoria moral kantiana acompanhando os desdobramentos que ocorrem a partir da primeira crítica e as sucessivas retomadas da questão. Na Fundamentação da metafísica dos costumes o conceito perde sua força pela centralidade da autonomia na teoria moral. Felicidade e virtude, elementos constitutivos do sumo bem são revistos na crítica kantiana da religião, sempre compreendidos no contexto da realização moral em vistas de uma correspondência entre natureza e liberdade, a partir da idéia do sumo bem.
