The author answers his critics by discussing eight items. First, the category “the fundamental Christian story” is clarified; each person has only one fundamental Christian story, although many such stories occur throughout history. Second, Ole Davidsen is reminded that the aim of “Den Kristne Grundfortælling” (The Fundamental Christian Story) is a fundamental theology in which the relationship between story and reflection is already assumed. Third, it is pointed out to Peter Kemp that the scheme of the book establishes the narrative foundation for all criticism which of course neither excludes “criticism of consciousness” nor ethical criticism which is discussed in item four. Five to seven, Per Bilde’s criticism is considered to be out of place because he disregards that the problem posed in the book concerns the reality which the historical-critical method assumes, and not primarily the method itself. Eight, it is discussed whether Peter Kemp is correct in assuming that the symbol alone admits transcendence and criticism, a point which the author challenges. The author accepts along the way two critical objections raised by Jan Lindhardt.
