Doomsday, Past, Present and Future: Kinji Fukasaku's Virus

Based on Fukkatsu No Hi (Day of Resurrection) by Sakyo Komatsu, who had also written a novel later adapted for a 150 minute disaster movie, Tidal Wave (1973), and released in America in a badly dubbed and heavily cut 1975 version, Kinji Fukasaku's Virus (1980), a film whose Japanese title is the same as the original novel, appears to resemble those many ill-conceived international co-productions characterizing the 1970s and 1980s. Virus superficially appears to be just another version of a 1970s genre running out of energy.
