Maternal Satisfaction with Labor and Delivery Services and Associated Factors Among Post-Partum Women in East-Gojjam Zone Primary Hospitals, Amhara-Ethiopia: Cross- sectional study

Abstract
Background: Globally, approximately 810 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth every day. Mothers’ delivery care satisfaction is one of the indicators to monitor the quality of health care provision and secondary prevention of maternal mortality. However, there is only limited information in the study area. The objective of this study is to determine the level of maternal satisfaction and associated factors among women who came for labor and delivery services.
Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 600 mothers in the Maternity ward of the three primary Hospitals in East-Gojjam-Ethiopia from March to May, 2022. The data was collected using a structured interviewer-administered questionnaire using a systematic random sampling technique. Data were entered into Epi data v 3.1, transported and analyzed using SPSS version 23.0. Binary logistic regression analysis was done to assess the statistical association between dependent and independent variables and variables having p-value less than or equal to 0.25 in binary logistic regression analysiwereas entered into multivariate logistic regression analysis for identifying determinants of maternal satisfaction on delivery services using a p value of 0.05 and 95 % confidence level.
Results: The overall maternal satisfaction level with the delivery services at the study hospitals was 85%. Having perceived cleanliness of the delivery room (AOR=13, 95% CI: 2.3, 59.8) and availability of drugs (AOR=3.659, 95%CI: 1.382, 9.69) were positively associated with maternal satisfaction on delivery service. Mothers who did not attend formal education were more likely satisfied with delivery service compared with those mothers whose educational status was diploma and above (AOR=0.056, 95% CI: 0.007, 0.431).
Conclusions: The overall level of client satisfaction with the delivery services was found to be suboptimal and could be improved. Cleanliness of the delivery room, availability of drugs and supplies, and educational status were significantly associated with predictors of maternal satisfaction. The health system should be devised to increase maternal satisfaction the health institutions and provide maternal-friendly services.
