Reseña al artículo de Luis A. Soto, et al, “The environmental legacy of the Ixtoc-I oil spill in Campeche Sound, southwestern Gulf of Mexico”, en Frontiers in Marine Science, (07 November, 2014)

El texto aquí reseñado, está estructurado en torno a la discusión sobre la resolución de posturas controversiales que han emanado de múltiples estudios sobre las condiciones del ecosistema marino de la Sonda de Campeche. Los autores de este texto hacen un esfuerzo por revisar críticamente sus propias contribuciones científicas logradas a través de varias décadas en dicha región, bajo el contexto de una evaluación ambiental interdisciplinaria. La postura más controvertida que se presenta es la manifestada por Pemex en los años ochenta, afirmando que el ecosistema marino de la Sonda de Campeche no sufrió daño alguno como consecuencia del derrame de petróleo crudo proveniente del Ixtoc-I. De ahí que el gobierno mexicano no haya apoyado ni creado un equipo de investigadores enfocados al análisis a largo plazo de los efectos de dicho derrame.
