Èkfrasis kak sposob formirovaniâ prostranstva smysla

The article considers the function of ekphrastic descriptions and references to works of art in the stories of I.S. Turgenev. The question is raised whether ekphrasis, along with literary intertext, participates in the formation of the space of meaning, reflecting the writer’s attitude to the expression of the invisible and the image of the inexpressible, defining the principles of Turgenev’s poetics of understatement and hint. The dialogue with culture, which is realized through ekphrastic inclusions, testifies to the hidden polyphonism of Turgenev’s prose and the direction of the writer’s creative evolution.
