A Survey for Head Pediculosis in School going Children of Peshawar Pakistan

This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the overall prevalence of head pediculosis with respect to sex, age groups and areas of residence in school going of Peshawar, Pakistan. The percentage of louse was found through a structured questionnaire. A standard questionnaire recorded information about demographic features of each student. Out of 400 children, 225 (56.25%) were positive for pediculosis. Head Pediculosis was positive in 75 (18.75%) boys and 150 (37.5) girls, being more prevalent in girls than boys. Higher prevalence rate of 176 (44%) for Pediculosis was observed in children residing in rural areas. With respect to age group, Pediculosis was found more prevalent in 104 (26.0%) of age group between 9-12 years. The results indicate that personal hygiene may be of key importance in determining the spread of the disease. Awareness programmes are needed to educate the people about of head pediculosis and the importance of good personal hygiene.
