Kritische Würdigung des neuen katalanischen etymologischen Wörterbuches von Joan Coromines

Between 1980 and 1988, eight of the nine announced volumes of Joan Coromines' Etymological and Complementary Dictionary of the Catalan Language (Diccionari etimològic i complementari de la llengua catalana) appeared. He had previously published two editions of the Spanish etymological dictionary (the last volume from the second edition is still missing). This is undoubtedly a gigantic work, internationally recognized by Romanists. But the controversial nature of the author and his intolerance, leading to slander, have also been criticized. Colleagues who have dared to make justified criticisms of some etymologies indicated by Coromines have, as a result, been badly criticized.
