The belt (faja in Spanish) is woven in a hip loom with wool and metallic thread. The belt consists of one piece of textile. The weaving technique used is upholstery or tapisserie (tapiceria in Spanish). In this technique, threads of different colours of the warp and weft are interwoven to form figures. The belt contains braided fringes at the ends. \A belt is a garment used by both women and men to tie up trousers or skirts. The belt also has other functions such as providing support while performing heavy work. This belt is used by women and is intended for everyday use. The background color of the belt is red. The belt is decorated along its entire length with geometric motifs in different colors.\Now, Zunil is located in the department of Quetzaltenango. In 2007, Zunil had a population of 12,070, of which 10,907 belong to the K´iche culture. \Zunil has its origins in the pre-colonial period, when it was still located on the banks of the Samalá River.
