Comparative Study of the Structural Resistance of Sawah rice and Gogo rice

The research was aimed: (1) study the structural defense traits of “Sawah” rice and “Gogo” rice , and (2) to determine  the difference of leaf and root structural  defense of some Sawah rice and Gogo rice varieties.  It has been conducted in the experimental field and Plant Structure and Development Laboratory of Biology Faculty – UNSOED at October 2003 to Mart 2004. Sampling was done through randomized chosen, which was followed with making preparations using paraffin method after Johansen (1940).  Observation on the structural traits of the roots and leaves was accomplished descriptively.  Observed parameters were the anatomical structure of roots and leaves, leaf thickness, leaf cuticle thickness, number of stomata per leaf square unit, number of trichome per leaf square unit, and number of motor cell per row. Research result showed that the structural defense traits owned by Sawah rice and Gogo rice was different. It was seen from the observed parameters, i.e. from the measurement on the root air pore diameter, leaf thickness, the thickness of leaf cuticle, number of stomata, number of trichome/mm2 leaf square unit, and number of motor cell.
