ANALYSIS OF RISK FACTORS OF STOMA RELATED COMPLICATIONS

View through CrossRef
Background: Stoma is a Greek word meaning 'mouth' or 'opening'. Stoma surgery results in a small opening on the surface of the abdomen being surgically created in order to divert the flow of faeces and/or urine. The related complications due to the procedure can have a impact on the outcome of the stoma followed by surgery and also on the financial status of the patient. There will be additional burden of re-operation for stoma closure or for stoma complications which puts financial and physical strain and it also causes psychological distress on the patients in view of the need for constant change of bag in the society. Aim 1). To study stoma related complications 2). To study risk factors assessment which include patient related factors and intraoperative factors 3). To study any modifiable factors to change the patient outcomes. Methodology: It is a Prospective observational study carried out in Dept. of General Surgery, Dr.Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences & Research foundation between April 2021 to June 2024. Results:In the study conducted none of the parameters showed any significant association with regards to the early and late stoma complications either following stoma surgery.
