This article discusses Michael Crawford's new edition of Diocletian's Edict of Maximum Prices at the Civil Basilica in Aphrodisias (Wiesbaden 2023) and offers new considerations on the chapter of the Edict concerning maritime freight charges. This chapter has survived in two different versions at Aphrodisias. Through the analysis of the contents, this paper shows that the elaboration of the second version of the chapter was motivated by an integration of the first list of naval transports that was made in the West, at the court of the Augustus Maximianus. This provides a clear confirmation that the promulgation of the Price Edict was not limited to the Eastern part of the Roman Empire.
