Examining Pro-Social Behaviour and its Interplay with Psychological Well-being among Undergraduates

View through CrossRef
Pro-social behaviour and psychological well-being are integral behaviour and psychological constructs of students’ personality as pro-social behaviour enhances and positively contributes to well-being of students. This study envisioned to examine the pro-social behaviour and its interplay with psychological well-being of university students. Data were collected from 1958 students of 10 universities in Punjab Provinces. Two pre-validated scales: 54 items pro-social behaviour scale and 42 items psychological well-being scale were used for data collection. The descriptive findings of the study revealed that a great number of students showed a high level of social responsibility along with strong empathy among students. There was a good level of inclination among them for justice and fairness. The students showed low personal distress during emergency and altruistic acts. The level of psychological well-being among the students was moderate as they demonstrated an average level of autonomy, environmental mastery and self-acceptance. The correlation analysis showed a moderate positive association between pro-social behaviour and psychological well-being. It is concluded that pro-social behaviour is a good predictor of psychological well-being among students. The results of this study may further be investigated in other contexts for further understanding.
