BARRELS. Oval roast barrel with oblique protruding, straight edge with contoured outer edge. Decor in blue. Main motif a garden with two herons. Around the bay a lambrequin board, with four larger and four smaller lobes with flowers and leaves. On the bottom an obscure seal mark. Purchased by Wilhelmina von Hallwyl on 26 September 1906 at Bukowski’s art trade for 31 kr. The ornate stretcher pattern on the edge and spearhead stretcher around the recess are common on export items from the mid-1700s. The decor was used on millions of items that were part of European food services. The central patterns varied and could be added to items that made up the bulk of the export trade.
