The item is a proof or cutting from Archaeolgical Journal (see Bibliography).The engraving shows an incised slab from Carcassonne Cathedral, depicting a knight in full mail with a surcoat covered in crosses and lions, wearing a sword, with a lion at his feet. It is thought to represent Simon de Montfort who was killed at the siege of Toulouse in 1218.
