Apocalyptic Determinism

View through CrossRef
Determinism is a philosophical concept in which a necessary chain of causation fixes or determines everything that happens in time and space. In theology, determinism is associated with the assumption that everything is determined by a divine creator, or by fate. This chapter focuses on apocalyptic determinism in relation to Stoicism, Flavius Josephus, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. It discusses determinism in apocalyptic literature such as the book of Daniel and the Testament of Abraham before turning to forms and expressions of deterministic ideas in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
