Analisis Resepsi Remaja Kota Surabaya terhadap Maskulinitas pada Film Pertaruhan

Abstract: Film is one of the mass media that acts as a messenger. The role of movies contains criticism of a reality that exists in society. The purpose of this study is to determine the position of the audience according to Stuart Hall's three reading positions towards masculinity constructed in the movie Pertaruhan. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data collected in qualitative research is not in the form of numerical data, but data derived from interview scripts, field notes, notes or memos of researchers and other supporting official documents. This research design uses a reception analysis delivered by Stuart Hall by dividing the decoding of media messages into three positions, namely the dominant position of hegemony, negotiation position, and opposition position. The results of the study obtained the conclusion that the informants' acceptance can be grouped into the dominant position of hegemony, negotiation, and opposition. Surabaya teenagers' acceptance of masculinity in the movie Pertaruhan is still relevant to the masculinity traits conveyed by David and Brannon, namely no sissy stuff, be a sturdy oak, and give them hell. Surabaya teenagers perceived masculinity in the movie in the form of assertiveness, physical strength, independence, ability to fulfill financial needs, and not showing the weak side of men. But on the other hand, researchers also found a view of toxic masculinity in the movie.Abstrak: Film merupakan salah satu media massa yang berperan sebagai pembawa pesan. Peran film memuat kritik terhadap suatu realitas yang ada di masyarakat. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui posisi audiens menurut tiga posisi pembacaan milik Stuart Hall terhadap maskulinitas yang dikonstruksi pada film Pertaruhan. Penelitian ini merupakan deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang dikumpulkan pada penelitian kualitatif bukan berupa data angka, melainkan data yang berasal dari naskah wawancara, catatan lapangan, catatan atau memo peneliti dan dokumen resmi lain yang mendukung. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan analisis resepsi yang disampaikan oleh Stuart Hall dengan membagi decoding pesan media menjadi tiga posisi, yaitu posisi dominan hegemoni, posisi negosiasi, dan posisi oposisi. Hasil penelitian diperoleh keisimpulan bahwa penerimaan para informan dapat dikelompokkan ke dalam posisi dominan hegemoni, negosiasi, dan oposisi. Resepsi remaja Surabaya terhadap maskulinitas pada film Pertaruhan masih relevan sifat-sifat maskulinitas yang disampaikan David dan Brannon, yaitu no sissy stuff, be a sturdy oak, dan give em hell. Remaja Surabaya meresepsi maskulinitas pada film dalam bentuk ketegasan, kekuatan fisik, kemandirian, kemampuan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan finansial, dan tidak menunjukkan sisi lemah laki-laki. Namun disisi lain, peneliti juga menemukan adanya pandangan toxic masculinity pada film tersebut.
