Afrodite fra Knidos påsat Det Kaufmannske hoved

View through National Gallery of Denmark
Copy in plaster acquired 1889 after an antique, Roman copy of a lost, Greek original of a naked woman trying to cover her breasts and gender from the eager eyes of the beholder. Made in the Late Classical Style by Praxiteles of Athens who worked form 375-340 BCE. It was one of the first renderings of the female nude in Greek art, which until then focused on male nudes and dressed women. The body of the Roman statue is much restored and is held at the Vatican Museums in Rome with another head attached. The head from which this copy is made, is at the Louvre in Paris.
