View through CrossRef
Aim: Agrotourism is a sustainable form of tourism that combines traditional agriculture with a tourist offer, promoting local products, rural culture, and authentic experiences of rural life. In the context of sustainable development, agrotourism emerges as a crucial mechanism for economic revitalization, particularly in rural areas, enhancing the quality of life for local communities and conserving natural resources. This study aimed to evaluate the spatial distribution, accessibility, and suitability of agrotourism activities in Tirana Municipality, Albania, using GIS-based geospatial analysis and multi-criteria decision-making.
Methods: The study used GIS-based spatial analysis and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to assess 13 agrotourism activities across four categories, considering indicators such as accessibility, landscape suitability, population distribution, and clustering.
Results. Results highlight that the most successful agrotourism activities are located in semi-rural zones near Tirana, such as Farkë, Petrelë, and Vaqarr, where proximity to roads and cities enhances visitor access while preserving rural authenticity.
Conclusion: The study concludes that strategic planning, improved accessibility, and sustainable practices are essential for maximizing the potential of agrotourism in Tirana.
Recommendation: These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders in designing sustainable agrotourism strategies that balance economic growth with environmental and cultural preservation.
