The similarities between Almohad architecture and the vernacular architecture of Marrakech

Abstract. This article aims to gather and emphasize the similarities between Almohad architecture and the vernacular architecture of Marrakech. Hailing from Marrakech, the Almohad Empire, while expanding, integrated local characteristics from the El Haouz region's vernacular style, into its architectural designs. Some of the components of this design are rammed earth, stone, and wood, which are used extensively in structures with thick walls and flat roofs. The city of Marrakech, famous for its key position in the rise of the Almohad Empire in the 12th century, has had a notable impact on its architectural style. Almohad architectural style, influenced by both Amazigh and Andalusian elements, had a great effect on the local architecture of the area.
