Application of Lean Management in the pharmaceutical industry: Case of the SAIDAL Group

Today, the pharmaceutical industry is increasingly facing many challenges in a constantly changing environment. To cope with this, companies find their place in optimizing their operations and continuously improving their management systems to be able to stay on course for sustainable performance. In this competitive environment, the pharmaceutical sector is turning to the Lean Manufacturing approach to achieve total elimination of waste. "SAIDAL Group", a leading national and regional pharmaceutical company in Algeria, is part of this approach. A field study on a sample of 46 staff revealed some Lean Management practices within the group. The study concluded that SAIDAL should strengthen the use of a lean production system to reduce waste. RESUME: De nos, jours, l’industrie pharmaceutique est de plus en plus confrontée à de nombreuses difficultés dans un environnement en perpétuel changement. Pour y faire face, les entreprises trouvent leur place dans l’optimisation de leurs opérations et l’amélioration continue de leurs systèmes de management afin de maintenir le cadre de performance durable.Dans ce contexte concurrentiel, le secteur pharmaceutique se tourne vers la démarche du Lean Management pour parvenir à une élimination totale des gaspillages. "SAIDAL Groupe" entreprise pharmaceutique leader à l’échelle national et régional en Algérie, s’est inscrit dans cette démarche. Une étude de terrain sur un échantillon de 46 cadres a relevé quelques pratiques Lean Management au sein du groupe. L'étude a conclu que l’entreprise Saidal applique la démarche Lean Management au niveau des départements relatifs à la production et la distribution, mais elle devrait améliorer son utilisation pour moins de gaspillage.
