Krishna with the Gopis

The drawing shows Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu who is venerated as a god in his own right, seated near the entrance of a large wall that leads to a dense jungle. Krishna gestures to two gopis (milkmaids), who part company from him. In the foreground are two more gopis who converse near the water’s edge. A small boat is sketched in the bottom right corner.
