Arkkitehtuurin klassikon kääntämisen haasteista, osa I

Lauri Ockenströmin, Panu Hyppösen ja Aulikki Vuolan muodostama työryhmä laati vuosina 2016–2022 suomennoksen ja selitykset arkkitehtuurin historian klassikosta, Vitruviuksen Arkkitehtuurista-teoksesta (De architectura). Teoksen ikä, klassikkoasema ja siihen pohjautuneet tulkintatavat, kielellinen vaikeaselkoisuus ja taidehistoriallisen terminologian vakiintumattomuus nykykielissä asettivat käännöstyölle monia haasteita, joita Ockenström käsittelee kahden artikkelin sarjassa. Tässä ensimmäisessä osassa tarkastellaan yhden Vitruviuksen avaintermin ja arkkitehtuurin historian peruskäsitteen, venustas-käsitteen kääntämisen problematiikkaa esimerkiksi käsitehistoriallisen analyysin ja estetiikan historian näkökulmista.
