À l’automne 2015, une opération d’archéologie préventive a été menée par l’INRAP à Rouen, rue du Donjon. Elle a permis d’étudier l’évolution de ce secteur de la ville du xie siècle à nos jours, marqué en particulier par la construction du donjon au début du xiiie siècle et par la constitution d’un immense dépotoir durant la seconde moitié du xvie siècle. Ce dernier a livré un abondant mobilier qui reflète la vie du quartier à la Renaissance.
