Anti-proliferative and bactericidal properties of Senna occidentalis leaves extract silver nanoparticles
View through CrossRef
Senna occidentalis (S. occidentalis) silver nanoparticles (AgNps) synthesis was monitored by UV-Vis spectroscopy and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, TEM, SEM, EDS and XRD analysis. The in vitro antiproliferative and bactericidal properties of the nanoparticles were assayedon human breast (MCF7), liver (HepG2) and prostate cancer (PC3) cell lines, E. coli and S. aureus. The result revealed the AgNps to be mono-dispersed, crystalline in nature, composed of 73.75% Ag atom and 35nm in size. The Nps were very effective antiproliferative against cancer cell lines, MCF3 (IC50 23.94 μg/mL), HepG2 (IC50 26.14μg/mL) and PC3 (IC50 33.67 μg/mL). The AgNps exhibited bactericidal effect on E. coli and S. aureus after 24 hours’ incubation. Therefore, AgNps prepared from leave extract of Senna occidentalis, should be explored in the treatment of cancers and bacterial infections.

Description:
Senna occidentalis (S.
occidentalis) silver nanoparticles (AgNps) synthesis was monitored by UV-Vis spectroscopy and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, TEM, SEM, EDS and XRD analysis.
The in vitro antiproliferative and bactericidal properties of the nanoparticles were assayedon human breast (MCF7), liver (HepG2) and prostate cancer (PC3) cell lines, E.
coli and S.
aureus.
The result revealed the AgNps to be mono-dispersed, crystalline in nature, composed of 73.
75% Ag atom and 35nm in size.
The Nps were very effective antiproliferative against cancer cell lines, MCF3 (IC50 23.
94 μg/mL), HepG2 (IC50 26.
14μg/mL) and PC3 (IC50 33.
67 μg/mL).
The AgNps exhibited bactericidal effect on E.
coli and S.
aureus after 24 hours’ incubation.
Therefore, AgNps prepared from leave extract of Senna occidentalis, should be explored in the treatment of cancers and bacterial infections.
