O USO DE ACUPUNTURA NO TRATAMENTO DE EQUINOS COM LAMINITE: REVISÃO DE LITERATURA

Acupuncture is explored as an alternative treatment for laminitis in horses, a condition that compromises the health and well-being of these animals due to intense pain and inflammation in the hooves. Originating from Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture stands out for its ability to modulate pain and reduce inflammation by stimulating specific points on the body that promote analgesia, muscle relaxation, and improved circulation in affected tissues. This practice complements conventional treatment, reducing the need for analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs, aiding in the animal’s clinical stabilization. The review presented in this paper highlights the importance of acupuncture in treating laminitis in horses, addressing relevant issues for veterinarians. In addition to promoting pain relief and improving blood circulation, this technique has anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects that can be especially useful in managing laminitis. The study reveals acupuncture as a promising therapeutic resource that when complementing conventional treatment reduces the need for medication and minimizes side effects, benefiting the animals’ quality of life. The review aims to provide professionals comprehension about the efficacy and limitations of this practice, supporting clinical decision-making and proposing an integrative approach that enhances outcomes in the treatment of laminitis.
