Pyoderma Gangrenosum; a case report

View through CrossRef
Background: Pyoderma gangrenosum is an unusual ulcerative skin disease, presumably caused by aheightened response to an allergen leading to an uncontrolled immune response. It may be associated with anunderlying systemic condition which is why it is imperative to rule out any systemic cause as its treatment mayresult in spontaneous resolution. Steroids are the mainstay of therapy. However, in certain cases, improvementmay be minimal, and other agents may be necessary to avoid an increase in morbidity, slow healing, scarring, and contractures. This case report aims to discuss the management of pyoderma gangrenosum whentreatment modalities such as steroids become unsuccessful. A multidisciplinary team including dermatologists, nutritionists, psychologists, and physiotherapists is needed to manage this disease. Keywords: Pyoderma gangrenosum, ulcerative skin disease, steroids, multidisciplinary teamHow to cite: Shamim H, Raza M, Zia MH, Rasheed U, Azfar NA.
