The work Intercourse with Diagram. Köpcke Piece No. 59+126 presents viewers with a dual task: reading a picture and decoding a sign system. The diagram in the lower part of the work is filled in with various figures and signs. To the right it says ‘READ FROM LEFT TO RIGHT / SAME COLOR / SIGN A WORD’. If, for example, you follow the blue square through the diagram, you get the word ‘erotic’. The green square yields ‘reading’ – and so on with ‘vagina’, ‘breast’ etc. The words tie in with the erotic scene drawn above the diagram. The drawing is obscured by coloured lines, but the words provide clues and focal points within the pornographic motif – thus turning it into an object of philosophical rather than impassioned contemplation.
