The Role of Digital Technology and Green Energy in Impacting Energy Intensity in Pakistan

Energy intensity is a vital indicator of the efficiency of an economy in the use of the energy to produce economic output. The sustainable economic growth, energy security and environmental protection can only be realized through reducing the intensity of the energy in both the developing and developing countries such as in Pakistan with chronic energy shortages and environmental issues. The past few years have also seen the rise of digital technology and the implementation of green energy as the primary force in energy efficiency, as it allows creating smarter energy management systems, improving productivity, and making the shift to cleaner energy sources. This paper will analyze how digital technology and green energy affect energy intensity in Pakistan; it will be based on annual time-series data. The digital technology enhances a better energy consumption due to automation, innovation, and efficiency of resource consumption, and green energy minimizes the use of fossil fuels and encourages sustainable production methods. This research will contribute empirical evidence to the development of the energy-economy nexus by incorporating digitalization and renewable energy development into the energy-economy nexus and its capacity to allow Pakistan to reduce its energy intensity with the help of technological advancement and adoption of clean energy. It is anticipated that the findings will provide valuable policy implications to be used in facilitating the development of digital infrastructure and renewable energy investment in helping to achieve the long-term sustainable development goals of Pakistan.
