Painterly- Musical Construction

View through Europeana Collections
Painterly- Musical Construction. 1918. Watercolour and gouache on board. 51 x 63. Pointilism. The composition is based on a complex rhythm of twisting, rotating mass. That’s a symbol of the space substance, of its unity and colour diversity. Brushstrokes of different size and colour create a visual vibration that leads to the effect of shifting. Matiushin and his students often used this method while painting the pure substance of aerial or underwater space. The background is dark, nearly black and it thickens the rotating substance. School of Organic Education/ Analytical Art.
