Norbert Schwontkowski (1949–2013) was a German painter whose work explored existential themes and the quiet absurdities of everyday life with subtle humor and melancholy. Born in Bremen-Blumenthal, he studied painting in Bremen and Hamburg. Early exhibitions took him to New Zealand, Italy, and the Netherlands. By the 1990s, he received growing recognition, including the Bremen Art Prize and the Overbeck Prize for Fine Arts (both 1994).
