BIRTH CONTROL MECHANISM AND CONTRACEPTIC USE AMONG WOMEN IN OWERRI NORTH LGA, IMO STATE

This study examined birth control mechanism and contraceptive use among women in Owerri North LGA, Imo State. The study used survey research design, and questionnaire served as the instrument of data collection. The data collected in this study were analyzed using simple percentage, mean statistics and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) at 0.05 level of significance through Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 21.0). It was discovered that the level of awareness about birth control and contraceptive use among women in Owerri North LGA, Imo State is high; and there is significant impact of birth control and contraceptive use among women in Owerri North LGA, Imo State. This research concludes that the achievement of birth control and implementation of contraceptive use are solution for improving the health of women and reducing maternal and child death in Nigeria in general and Owerri North in particular. It recommended that there is need for the government through the national orientation agency to carry out a public enlightenment and education on the benefits of birth control and contraceptive use. Furthermore, Health professionals should be very effective and used different media organizations like radio, TV stations, newspapers, and other media firms to enlighten the public especially women on issue of birth control and contraceptive use.
