Queen's Beasts

Visitors to Kew Gardens , Surrey , have something new to look at these days . They are the ten Queen's Beasts which have been carved in stone by Mr . James Woodford . It was he who made the original models of the beasts in plaster for the Carnation Annexe of Westminster Abbey .
The stone models each weigh more than a ton and are six feet tall . They took eighteen months to complete . The Beasts , which have been erected outside Decimus Burton's Palm House , Kew Gardens , by the ministry of works , are : The Lion of England : The Unicorn of Scotland : The Greyhound of the Tudors , The Dragon of the Tudors : the Yale of the Beauforts; the White Horse of Hanover; the Falcon of the Plantagenets: the Griffin of Edward III ; The Bull of Clarence and the White Lion of Mortimer .
PICTURE SHOWS:- Looking like ten sentinels watching over lovely Kew Gardens , the Queen's Beasts make an impressive picture .
