Artykuł przedstawia spór o majątek rodu Sobieskich po śmierci Marii Karoliny, diuszesy de Bouillon, w 1740 roku. O schedę po Janie III Sobieskim ubiegali się jego potomkowie z rodu Stuartów, de La Tour d’Auvergne, krewni z rodów Radziwiłłów i Sanguszków oraz liczni wierzyciele na czele z wojewodą sandomierskim Janem Tarłą. W poniższej pracy przedstawiona została rola mediatorów w konflikcie między Radziwiłłami a Tarłami, gdzie główną rolę odgrywał Jan Klemens Branicki, powiązany z obiema stronami sporu. W pracy zostało zastosowane indukcyjne badanie źródeł, wykorzystano metody bezpośredniego ustalania faktów.
