Graffiti Wars: Combat with Coatings and Specialized Graffiti Removal Technology

Abstract
The three prongs of the antigraffiti trident are protection via coating selection, graffiti removal technology and recurrence prevention. Particular emphasis has been placed upon the technical and practical advantages and disadvantages of graffiti abatement strategies using protective coatings and environmentally friendly graffiti cleaners.
The chemistry and application of the materials are examined to assist specification authorities, owners and contractors in the war on graffiti. Case histories are provided to illustrate both the efficacy of barrier and sacrificial coatings as well as the different types of graffiti cleaners.
