A Study of Selected Syntactic Theories Applied to Kanuri: A Generative Approach

The research titled Study of Some Generative Theories Applied to Kanuri. Such as Government and Binding (GB), X-bar and Theta theory. Discusses how they employed in the Saharan Language (Kanuri). Data were collected through unobtrusive observation, oral interview and review of syntactic books. Random sampling is also employed in the paper. The finding of the study reveals that, the universal grammar parameters as presented by government and Binding and X-bar theories. Observed that languages differ in how these principles apply to them. Based on this, Kanuri language is subjected to the test of the principles of Government and Binding just to ascertain the grammaticality construction under some of the sub-theories of universal grammar like x-bar theory, theta-theory, move alpha theory etc. with reference to Kanuri syntax has been worked into and analysed. The research would become the beneficiary of language and linguistics students. And library base document.
