Abstract This study is a qualitative research that focuses on the method of document analysis. It was found that the two figures involved in this study are widely known among the Muslim community in Malaysia as politicians. However, not many recognise them as among the prominent scholars who actively disseminated Islamic teachings through religious lectures and the production of works in the field of Qur’anic exegesis. The analysis shows that both figures tend to interpret Qur’anic verses according to the reformist (islah) approach. This is evident through an in-depth examination of selected Qur’anic verses interpreted by the two scholars, based on the forms of islah proposed by Muhammad ‘Abd al-‘Azim al-Zarqani. The findings indicate that most of the Qur’anic verses interpreted by both figures address the six forms of islah suggested by al-Zarqani, namely those involving the elements of creed (Islah al-‘Aqa’id), worship (Islah al-‘Ibadah), ethics (Islah al-Akhlaq), wealth management (Islah al-Mal), politics (Islah al-Siyasah), and social affairs (Islah al-Ijtima‘).
