Portrait of Gerlach Adolph von Münchhausen. The politician is shown here as a front half figure. His head is turned to the right, but he patterns the viewer. He wears a wig and richly decorated robes. The rectangular frame surrounding the portrait is decorated with jewelry. A coat of arms connects the frame with the shell cartouche underneath.
Gerlach Adolph von Münchhausen was considered a great patron. In 1734 he founded the Georg-August-University of Göttingen, where Samuel Christian Hollmann (BS-III 740) taught.
The template for copper engraving here was a work by the painter Franz Lippold (1688-1768), who worked in Frankfurt a.M.. The print stock was then formed by the Nuremberg copper engraver Johann Wilhelm Windter (1696-1765).
