The ornament is a sideways copy after the upper part of sheet 4, an etching to Benedetto Battini, moved by Hieronymus Cock in Antwerp in 1553 (see: Peter Fuhring in Hieronymus Cock. The Renaissance in print, exhibition catalog edited by Joris Van Grieken, Ger Luijten, Jan Van der Stock, Leuven, M-Museum Leuven, Paris, Institut Néerlandais, Brussels 2013, 77). The woodcuts are similar to the cartouches of Jacob Floris, Varii generis partitionum..., edited by Hans Liefrinck in Antwerp 1556 (Collijn 1930, 60; Lotz 1939 215, 674; De Jong and De Groot 1988, 83.1-16).
