THE EFFECTS OF INTERNET OF THINGS ON INFORMATION SECURITY MANAGEMENT IN PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS IN EKITI STATE

The paper examines the effects of internet of things on information security Management in Public institutions in Ekiti State. The objectives of the study were to; assess the current state of IOT implementation on Information Security Management in Public institutions in Ekiti State; identify the effects of IoT on Information Security Management and analyse the challenges and opportunities associated with IoT integration. The researcher adopted a survey design for the study. The population of the study consisted of eighty (80) level eight to twelve administrative staff working The Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti and Ekiti State Teaching Hospital. The sample size was derived using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample size table to select 72 respondents out of the total population used for the study. The instrument used for the study is the questionnaire. Both face and content validity of the instrument was ensured. The questionnaire was personally distributed by the researcher and seventy-two (72) questionnaire was dully filled and returned. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between the implementation of IoT devices and ISM practices within public institutions in Ekiti State. The study concluded that IoTs are fundamental to implementation of any system of which information management system is not excluded.  Based on this, it was recommended that institutions should update and strengthening their security protocols to accommodate the specific requirements and risks associated with IoT devices. Regular risk assessment should be conducted to identify and mitigate potentials threats. Institutions should stay informed about emerging IoT Technology and trends to anticipate and prepare for future security challenges.
