Off to the Emigrant ship. Waterloo station was crowded this morning with ambitious men and women taking their last look at London. They were some of the 1,252 emigrants to Australia who leave for their new life "down under" in the liner " Asturias " , sailing from Southampton . The vessel has been acquired by the Australian Government from the British Government for use as a " migrant " ship . Picture shows: Leaving England was a carnival affair for these happy youngsters from Liverpool , pictured at their carriage window at Waterloo before the boat train pulled out for Southampton . They were going to Tardun , West Australia . 29 August 1947
