Notes on five inscriptions from the territory of Olisipo

View through CrossRef
Abstract This paper aims to demonstrate that proper names serve as relevant elements for linguistic research. Latin nomina and cognomina and other onomastic aspects found in five epigraphic texts from the ager Olisiponensis , Lusitania will be studied. The adoption of the morphological process of creating names with Latin onymic suffixes -ius/-us among the local communities is interrelated with the presence of ‘onomastic fossils’ and concise epigraphic texts, with two given names in genitive. This adds new data about the cultural and linguistic influence of Italic migration flows to this region, namely the use and reinterpretation of onomastic elements.
