Determinants of Low Utilization of Implant Contraception among Family Planning Acceptors
View through CrossRef
Background: The low use of contraceptive implants in Indonesia, particularly in Semarang City, is a concern in efforts to reduce birth rates and improve the quality of the Family Planning (FP) program. Implants, as a long-term contraceptive method, are highly effective, but remain underutilized. This low use is influenced by various factors, such as lack of knowledge, negative attitudes toward implants, lack of husband support, and the suboptimal role of health workers in providing education. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, husband support, and the role of health workers with the use of contraceptive implants among family planning acceptors at the Bandarharjo Community Health Center in Semarang City. Methods: This study was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study was 77 family planning acceptors who made repeat visits to the Bandarharjo Community Health Center using an accidental sampling technique. The research instrument used a questionnaire, and data analysis used the Fisher's exact test. Results: The majority of family planning acceptors (51%) had insufficient knowledge about contraceptive implants, 70 (90.9%) had negative attitudes, 72 (93.5%) lacked husband support, and 69 (89.6%) did not receive support from health workers. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between knowledge (p=0.001), attitude (p=0.001), husband support (p=0.001), and the role of health workers (p=0.007) and the use of contraceptive implants at the Bandarharjo Community Health Center in Semarang City.
