Bey Hamam #1
View through Europeana Collections
The series of icons "Bey Hammam" are dedicated to the homonymous Baths of Thessaloniki that dominate the city centre. Its important geographical location and their original role are the main photographic interest of the artist, who seeks to identify the dominant cultural trace that these places capture. The function of the hammam as an element of everyday life, which has however been extinct for decades, as well as its architecture, constitute for the artist a point in space and time, a border between two cultures, which can and should be approached from multiple perspectives.
