Relief fragment from the temple of the Sahure

View through Europeana Collections
Relief fragment from the temple of the Sahure: Head of a male deity Brown color remnants on the face indicate a male person. From her the head and the left shoulder are preserved. The figure looks to the left. The small size face is shown in the profile following the ancient Egyptian principles of representation, while the right eye is shown head-on. On the chin a narrow ceremonial beard bent outwards at the lower end can be seen. As headgear, the depicted wears a long strand wig reaching to the back. The neck adorns a neck collar. The beads in the neck ornament are marked by small circles. The character’s style with its beard and wig forms can be found in various representations of the gods in the Sahure temple. Therefore, the person depicted here should also be a deity. (Egyptian Museum and collection of papyrus)
