View through Europeana Collections
The picture has been taken in connection with the cultural historical characterization of Hökstard’s church, Hökstard’s parish, Uppland July 2006.
The Hökshus Church is a typical representative of the late medieval churches in Uppland. The towerless Salt Church was built in its entirety in the late 1400s with longhouses, including the choir, sacristy and gunhouses. It was probably preceded by an older wooden church on the site. The church is built of graystone with bricks in portals and windows. The church has steep saddle roofs, covered with tar shavings. Roof construction is preserved in original condition with gothic roof trusses with scissors. The façades are uncovered and consist of split greystone in varying size and colour and have constructed lime mill joints. The ceasefire in the south has a multi-leaved, plastered gate scope. On the western longhouse gable there is a classicist, trimmed gate size from the 1840s when a new entrance was raised. The church has large, round-arched windows with screened iron windows painted in green. The interior windows are provided with wooden arches. The window covers are smooth-limed and whitewashed and the sunbenches covered with copper sheet. The windows were enlarged to their present form by 1755. The northern longhouse window was only added in 1843. The gunhouse is provided with an age-old wooden door made of wide planks with a bandhinge. The west entrance has a green painted double door in a neo-classicistic style.
