Bobbin-made tape joined by needlepoint fillings, Belgium, second half of 19th century. A wide border of bold scrolls bearing formal leaves and flowers made of bobbin-made tape joined by needlepoint fillings and bars. This kind of lace is known as Guipure de Flanders and was made to imitate 17th century patterns. Guipure de Flanders lace began to be made in the late 1840s, with Bruges, Iseghem and Thielt being the main centres of production.  Bobbin and needlepoint lace.
